Undertaking
a restoration project can be daunting for anyone. Our new feature "Follow The Project" will
show the work that is being carried out and will highlight the
stresses and smiles. Our English
speaking project manager is leading the work.
The
beginning...
The
brick and stone built cottage comprises six rooms over two floors.
There is also a large cantina under the front terrace and a large
loft. The garden has two chicken sheds adjoined to the house.
There
is a large mulberry tree at the back which is blocking most of the
light. There is also an additional brick shed.
One
of the first floor rooms has a crack in the wall and the floor has
lifted in the middle.
There
is no internal staircase and no bathroom.
Week
1:
The
tree has gone and instantly made the back more open and light.
Two
of the chicken sheds have been demolished. The rubble is put down
to make the base for the planned patio.
After
investigating the crack in the wall a doorway was found.
Render
is being taking off to expose an internal stone wall that will become
a feature.
All
fireplaces, unsupporting walls and 1st floor floors are being knocked
out.
Week
2:
After
further removing of render the stone wall is half made from newer
bricks.
New
steel beams have been cemented in place and pot bricks inserted
to make the new 1st floor.
A
wall in the original hall has been removed to enlarge the planned
kitchen.
Week
3:
Mesh
and concrete have been put over the new floor.
Work
on the new electrics has been started.
Week
4:
New
walls on the first floor have started to go in and divide the space
up into three bedrooms and a bathroom
One
of the doors onto the the terrace has been changed and will become
the bathroom window.
The
space for the spiral staircase has been sectioned off.
The
window in the master bedroom has been moved across to allow for
a new dividing bedroom wall.
Week
5:
A
window in the master bedroom has just started to be knocked through.
The
electrician has been to fit electrics in the new walls.
Dividing
walls have been erected are being plastered.
The
fireplace in the kitchen has been knocked out.
Ideas
for flooring, kitchen and bathroom suites are being finalized.
Week
6:
A
channel was dug in the kitchen to accommodate central heating pipes.
Shower
and water supply fitted for Bathroom
Sewerage
and drainage for bathroom installed
Central
heating pipes in.
Cement
removed from stone wall in living room.
A
hole for an additional window kitchen was made
The
owner came to select the bathroom suite and tiles.
Week
7:
Estimate
for windows and doors received
Started
rendering the living room
Finished
the central heating pipes downstairs
Work
started on the exposed stone wall
